Away matches are always difficult; we have won one and lost six of our away matches. The next match is at home, followed by two away matches. General MGA Information

Saturday Tournaments

Saturday tournaments will be scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. or 9:00 a.m., depending on time of season (please check schedule). Announcements and scorecard handout will begin 15 minutes prior to the start time at the practice range area, with the goal of being on the course, ready to start at the scheduled start time. The entry fee for MGA Saturday events will be $22 this year. No-shows will be billed the entry fee and replaced by any available MGA members that are ready to play, but failed to sign up.

Your entry fee will be used to fund the prize pool and to pay for breakfast. We will pay 33% of the field with the prize pool. As in the past, the winnings will post to the credit book of the individual’s account in the golf shop. A cumulative list of winners will be posted outside the golf shop and on the MGA web site as the season progresses.

Sign-up for Saturday events can be accomplished by either signing up in person in the golf shop, via the tournament book (located at the front desk), or via the telephone, in which case you are responsible for obtaining a confirmation number. Do not hang up without receiving a confirmation number. Likewise, if you call to cancel, you must get a cancellation number. Please cancel prior to the signup deadline.

For MGA Saturday tournaments, the deadline for sign ups is 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As much as possible, we will ensure that everyone who signs up by the deadline will participate in the tournament. This may mean that some teams will have to use a blind draw.

But ... there are some tournament formats (e.g., two-man team) that do not lend themselves to allowing everyone to participate when the number of members who sign up by the deadline is not evenly divisible by the number on each team. In those cases, the last members to sign up will be informed that they may not be playing in the event. We say, "may not" because (a) enough additional members to make a complete team may try to sign up after the deadline or (b) someone may be a no-show on the day of the tournament. Those who may be excluded will be encouraged to show up on Saturday on the chance that an opening for them will occur.

Sign up early!

Posting of Scores

Golf shop personnel will post scores for all MGA sponsored events. MGA events for which a postable score results will be treated normally as tournament scores. Posting of all other scores will remain the responsibility of the individual golfer. Posting scores will be done with the GHIN system. Posting requires the golfer to enter his unique GHIN number and last name. Your GHIN number can be found in the MGA tournament sign-up book. Scores are posted at the kiosk in the Pro Shop or via the internet by visiting www.ghin.com. Selecting “POST SCORES” from the menu bar opens a sign-in window where you can log in, select your course and tees, and enter your ESC adjusted score. If you enter an incorrect score, you will have to ask the golf pros to correct the mistake.

MGA Web Page

Please access the MGA Web page at http://www.fawnlakevirginia.com/public/golf/mensgolf.aspx

You will find lots of useful information, such as MGA news, the Master Schedule, Tournament results, status of the Fawn Lake Cup, and upcoming events. Check it out. If you have any comments or suggestions, please contact the MGA Communications VP, Chuck Payne.

Handicap Committee

An essential element of the USGA Handicap System is the Handicap Committee. This committee must make certain that the members comply with the USGA Handicap System. The MGA representative on the Handicap Committee is Bob Ball.

Greens Committee

The purpose of the Greens Committee is to provide liaison between the Fawn Lake golfing community and the course Superintendent, Dave Smith. The committee usually meets the first Tuesday of each month and discusses questions/concerns from golfers and feedback from the Super. The MGA (and the LGA) pass this information to their members. The MGA representatives for 2010 are Jim Bost, Wayne Mayfield, Dave Maynard, and Greg Ried. Golfers, you may be interested in the Super's web page, www.flccturfcare.com. Check it out for timely information from Dave Smith.

THE FAWN LAKE CUP

THE MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP

2010 will mark the fourth year of The Match Play Championship. This individual event will be competed for over a four-month period beginning in May and running through August. Once again we will have four to five flights with up to 16 golfers in each flight.

Congratulations to the 2009 winners:

1. First Flight (Gross): Stan Bryant over Chris Woods

2. Second Flight (Blue Net): Alan Mendleson over Dave Garofalo

3. Third Flight (White Net 1): David House over Steve Connelly

4. Fourth Flight (White Net 2): Lee Fox over Don Bowles

5. Fifth Flight (Green/White): Jim Fulton over Jerry Brock

All flights will be seeded based on handicaps. The number one seeded player will play the sixteenth seeded player in a typical bracket. Each competitor will be responsible for scheduling and playing their match within the prescribed time to complete the match. The winners will proceed to the second, third, and championship rounds. This year, any match not completed within the prescribed time (calendar month) will be considered a forfeited match with both players eliminated. ["Completed" means that a winner of the match was determined either by the match being played or by one player conceding the match to the other.]

Any disputes will be resolved by the Match Play Tournament Committee consisting of the MGA President, MGA Tournament Chair, and Head Professional.
